Yoga for me? Nah

Hi,

I am writing this post after my failed attempt at beginner yoga. :/

First, let me tell you about my Sunday brunch.

On Sunday I met with my friend, Harper, on the Upper West Side. I picked the location Sugar and Plumm for our Sunday brunch. The restaurant kind of reminds me of my childhood dream bedroom. The door handles are lollipop shaped, the atmosphere smells like dessert, and large pieces of chocolate are for sale in a corner. My friend wasn’t even surprised that I picked it for our brunch location.

My favorite breakfast to eat from Sugar and Plumm is grits.

I ordered a cup of hot tea with grits. It tasted amazing!

I had a wonderful time chatting with my friend. She told me all about her new apartment and what the moving in experience was like (FYI, I hate moving in and out of places). We also talked about her first day of school, which was the next day. She starts graduate school this week and I think she is going to be a fantastic student. She loves what she is studying and could probably talk about it for hours.

We finished our meals with some yummy dessert, then headed over to a farmers’ market. The farmers’ market was on the same sidewalk as the American Museum of Natural History. I wanted to buy strawberry jam from one of the stands. I haven’t tried the jam yet, so I can’t say whether it is good. Across from the farmer’s market was a flea market. I thought my friend would want to check out the market since she just moved into a new place.

After the flea market, we took a walk into my favorite place, Central Park. After I left her I rode the subway to the tea shop, Palais des Thes. I like the taste of their oolong with flowers and exotic fruits because I do not have to put any sugar or milk in it.

When I got home I took a long nap after being busy all weekend.

I barely took photos but I guess that sometimes happen when you get too busy chatting away with your friend.

Now I must talk about my terrible relationship with yoga. My physical therapist says I really need to work on my flexibility so he recommended yoga. I tried a yoga class in college as well as in my hometown and I hated both of them. The class in my hometown focused heavily on the breathing part to the point where we sat and breathed for a very long time. I also had a yoga dvd for kids when I was younger and that was a little bit enjoyable, but that’s probably because I was more flexible than. Yesterday,I bought a beginner yoga dvd and I can barely do the moves that the instructor is doing. I need a beginner’s dvd for the one I just bought. Hopefully, I will one day praise the greatness of yoga but for now we are in a complicated relationship.

  5. Keep your eyeglasses in their case.
  6. Remember to take your eye makeup off at night.
  7. Do not ever think that you are not as great as someone else.
  8. Sometimes you will acquire an addiction to game apps on your phone.
  9. Fancy straws will always make your drink tastier.

Lazy Monday

Happy Monday!

Today will be a very lazy day for me. I had a lot of work to do this past weekend. Apparently, it is supposed to be in the high 90’s here, which my terrible air conditioner will not be able to fight off. My air conditioner is definitely on its last moments of its life. It doesn’t really blow cold air, it sort of just coughs it at random moments. Anyway I wanted to tell a little story that happen to me last week.

I went running last Wednesday and fell hard onto the concrete. I am not sure if it was the way I was running or if there was a bump in the sidewalk. When I fell I was only two blocks from where I live. I can’t remember falling. I felt like I was running and next thing you know, I am on the floor. I cut my hands, knees, wrists, and my right shoulder. Fortunately, my head hit the ground but was saved from the baseball hat that slid down the side of my face as I fell. I got up real quick and made sure no one saw because I may be an “adult’ but I was not prepared for an audience to see what I had just done. I went home quick and cleaned up all my wounds and checked each one out. Let me just say Katniss Everdeen must have a lot of adrenaline pumping during the Hunger Games because when I got home my cuts were really starting to sting.  So I thought this experience was a great representation of life because when you get knocked down you have to remember to get back up and try again. Am I right? I think I am. 😉  #cheeseball

The cut on my shoulder was the biggest, grossest cut on me. Nonetheless, I decided I was still going to wear my spaghetti strap dress to my friend’s party the next day because I loved the dress that I bought the night before. Who cares that I had a massive scab on my right shoulder? Okay, I cared a little when I noticed someone staring at it a little too long but then I was like whatever.  I can’t help that the sidewalk attacked me.  🙂

I am not going to show any pictures of my cuts because that would be gross for anyone who reads this. Instead, I have documented my current nail polish and sad attempt at making avocado toast. My avocado toast wasn’t that bad but it just didn’t taste as good as how restaurants make it.

Friday Lessons!

Try not to make your life perfect because it will never really be. Stop looking for other things to make your life perfect when you are lucky enough with the many things you have.

Just because you have a terrible looking scab on your shoulder does not mean you cannot wear a spaghetti strap dress that you bought the night before.

Always dance if you can.

Making small talk is a talent that takes awhile to master.

Hearing an old Britney Spears or Backstreet Boys song on the radio is a magical experience.

Getting clothes in the mail will always feel like a present to your self.

SOHO Night

I spent yesterday at a friend’s birthday dinner in SOHO. I thought I would share some pictures from the night. As a reminder, I am not showing friends on the blog just yet, so pictures will be mostly of objects and food.

I hopped on the subway and read Paper Towns while I waited for my stop. When I got off the subway, I took my flip flops off and put on my wedges because I only had to walk a block to the restaurant.

We ate at Isola Trattoria & Crudo Bar. The location of the restaurant is gorgeous. While walking into the restaurant I had to walk through a beautiful walkway.

We sat at a high top, wooden table. I knew a few of the people at the table, but some people I had never met before. My friend introduced me to her friends and at first I was quite nervous. I can get easily anxious being in a location where I do not know a lot of people. However, I reminded myself that sometimes living and having fun means that I have to experience uncomfortable situations. #YOLO. 😉

The waiter came by with a cook(I am not entirely sure who the man was but I am thinking a cook. I didn’t hear what he said) who gave each of us a small plate that had the yellow cubes on them. it tasted like pickles and pineapples mixed together.

Last night I made a fool of myself at soccer as per usual. My friend, Melissa and I decided we are on a search to find a beginner’s team in the area. We played in middle school but we figure we will feel more comfortable with a beginner type group.

I am making sure my nails are painted for the whole month of August. Yay! For this week my nails were painted with Revlon Parfumerie nail polish in the color Wintermint.

I Hate Cover Letters!

My hate for cover letters is strong. It is so hard and annoying to convey to so many different companies why you want a job. I recognize the importance of cover letters and am thankful that they allow me to prove to the company why they should hire me, but I definitely still hate those one page letters.

In other news, I bought my mom flowers. She mentioned to me once that she used to get her mom flowers. I got lunch, with my friend, next to a florist. As I went to leave the diner, I thought, ‘why not buy mom some flowers?’flowers for mom

Later on in the day, I went to the mall to buy a dress from Lily Pulitzer only to realize that I was wrong in thinking that mall had the store because they did not. 😦 I ended up going to LUSH to buy some fun products and was able to get a free panty at Victoria’s Secret since they sent me one of those free coupon things in the mail. #win. I ended my night at the Cheesecake Factory with my sister and mom.

I have to go to bed soon since I have physical therapy tomorrow. I am learning to no longer walk on my toes. I will share a few posts about physical therapy since my toe walking was an inspiration for part of my blog’s title. I am basically retraining my body to walk a different way than I have in the past 20 years. It sounds really easy but it definitely is not.

August Goals

Happy First Week of August!

I have come up with 10 goals for August that hopefully I will have accomplished at the end of the month. I used picmonkey to create my goal list. I am still playing around with picmonkey so I am sorry if some of the posts look terrible.

Reason for each goal

1. I have applied to 10 jobs so far. Yay!

2. I took an HTML class in college and loved it, however it was only a beginner course. HTML classes can be very expensive but I was fortunate to find one in my area.

3. My brother and I get along great but I feel like out of all my siblings I talk to him the least so I am changing that this month.

4. I can’t wait for my bedroom to be finished.

5. I am looking into taking a bodypump or kickboxing class.

6.I always feel like my life is put together when I have my toes and fingernails painted.

7. Explains itself.

8. I want to spend as much time outside and at the beach this month.

9. I keep reminding myself that I am due to donate blood. I am also interested in possibly donating plasma.

10. I went to the physical therapist and he said I really needed to loosen up my muscles and stretch.

Time for me to head to the nail salon for a pedicure with my sister. 🙂
